Applications to the Building Safety Regulator for New Build Higher-risk Building Projects
October 2023 marked the introduction of the new, more stringent building control regime for higher-risk buildings. It is therefore fundamental that the relevant authorities are aware of the new changes enforced by the Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA).
For developers planning the works of new build higher-risk building projects, there will be new requirements with which developers must comply. From 1 October 2023, it will be mandatory for developers to apply to the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) for building control approval before commencing any new build higher-risk building projects.
This course will discuss the criteria for applications made to the BSR for works on new higher-risk buildings.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Describe the functions and importance of the BSR as an independent body under the Building Safety Act 2022
- Define what constitutes a high-risk building in England according to the criteria set out by the Building Safety Act (BSA)
- Explain the process for submitting building control approval applications to the BSR
