The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) is recognised as the foremost UK-based professional institution for specialists employed in geospatial engineering and commercial management in the civil engineering industry. CICES strives in all that it does to maintain and improve that position.

CICES prides itself on its achievement as an internationally renowned centre of excellence in the art and science of civil engineering surveying to serve the public and satisfy the needs of the construction industry throughout the world. CICES began in 1969 as the Association of Surveyors in Civil Engineering and was incorporated in 1972.

Industry drivers for increasing skills capability outlined in the Government’s Construction Strategy and the ongoing poor adoption of technology in the industry provided CICES with a window of opportunity to enhance its online training services offering, to increase its membership and better support their existing members.

Key Challenges

Discussions began with Built Intelligence for the delivery of a digital transformation of their training options for the membership. Identifying the needs of a diverse membership was the first challenge. Built Intelligence worked closely with the CICES management boards and development teams to understand the unique needs of the Institution and its membership.

Delivery

Built Intelligence were tasked with providing a digital training toolkit for CICES and its members to include a package with access to over 600 online off-the-shelf courses for construction professionals, e-learning courses, and a webinar programme delivering over 30 sessions a month and also backed the training with an enviable amount of free content, whitepapers, templates and free learning sessions.

Along with the comprehensive technical library, Built Intelligence have mapped their course catalogue to the CICES competencies and are working with the CICES to develop a range of bespoke training options which will be unique to the membership which also included adding new titles to their ongoing library and working with industry experts within the civil engineering sector to deliver these.

Outcomes

The modular nature of Built Intelligences library of online training courses means this programme supports rapid development of CICES programmes which are aligned to the CICES qualification, competencies and also meets the recognised CPD requirements of CICES.

As the partnership develops the key outcomes can be measured by enrolments, subscriptions and completed courses. This is being directly linked to the strategic aims of the members, CICES as a body and Built Intelligence’s ability to successfully deliver the CICES vision, assessing ROE, ROI and CPD points.
